"This is one of my favorite vintages of the last thirty years for Rioja, and the Viña Real Reserva shows off all the purity and complexity that made this such a special year in the region. The deep and still quite youthful nose offers up a beautiful blend of black cherries, nutskins, Rioja spice tones, orange peel, lovely soil nuances and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite powerfully built, with a fine core of black fruit, modest tannins, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the complex and classy finish."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
