"The 2001 The Stranger (100% Syrah from a blend of fruit from San Marcos, Paso Robles, and Colson Canyon Vineyard) reveals an earthy, peppery, Provencal-like nose offering scents of licorice, garrigue, and spice box. Only 264 cases were produced. Reminiscent of a Rhone Valley Chateauneuf du Pape, it boasts full body, tremendous richness, loads of complexity, and copious quantities of red and black fruits. This large-scaled, well-balanced California red is very Mediterranean in character."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
