"Featuring as usual most prominently Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and the Muscats, Pfister's 2011 Cuvee 8 hints already in the nose at mouthwatering smoked meat and roasting pan scrapings, anticipating the savory palate impression that follows, where these elements are mingled with luscious melon and peach. Piquancy of peach kernel and a faint sizzling bite of radish lend invigoration in an impressively sustained finish. This should prove deliciously versatile through at least 2016. And speaking of versatility, I can't help mentioning Melanie Pfister's having recently voiced a frustration I share. "Different people at a restaurant table in Alsace are eating different things. So they decide to drink white Burgundy!" A wine like Cuvee 8 would be so much more versatile, not to mention interesting for the price."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Sheltered by the Vosges mountains, Alsace produces aromatic, mostly dry varietal whites - Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris - of exceptional purity and ageability.
A highly aromatic white of piercing acidity and transparency to terroir, ranging from bone-dry to lusciously sweet. It ages remarkably and is the noble grape of Germany and Alsace.
