"After the magnificent Bienvenues and Bâtard-Montrachets, it is hard to imagine that we can move up a bit in quality, but that is exactly what the Chevalier manages to do. The 2004 is deep, intensely flavored and even more powerful than the Bâtard-Montrachet today, though with all the elegance and breed that this vineyard is famous for. The bouquet is deep and magical, offering up notes of pear, white peach, lemon custard, spring flowers, layer up layer of chalky soil tones and a discreet framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and racy, with brilliant focus and cut, a rock solid core, and tremendous length and grip on the profound finish. Brilliant young Chevalier in the making."
