"Pierre Yves Colin describes 2012 as "definitely more interesting than 2011 as it produced wines that are more concentrated, more complex and more serious. The lack of sun during the middle part of the growing season allowed the fruit to retain better acidity and thus the wines have more structure. Speaking of the growing season it was frankly quite difficult as being hit by hail on three separate occasions adds a level of complexity that isn't easy to stay on top of. We are fortunate in that many of our vines are in St. Aubin and this sector was less punished than were Puligny and Meursault. I made the decision to wait and thus we picked much later than most domaines, which is to say from the 25th of September to the 3rd of October. The fruit was really quite clean and thus the vinifications were very straightforward. As to the wines as I mentioned they have excellent concentration with plenty of mid-palate fat and thus they should be accessible young but should age well too as they have everything they need for long cellaring. If I had to choose another comparable vintage I would probably nominate 2010 as there are definitely some similarities." Colin noted that he now owns and farms 6 ha directly and buys in the equivalent of another 4 ha where he is responsible for the harvest."
