"The 2006 vintage . . . is clearly a terrific vintage in its own right and Christophe’s Les Cras is a brilliant example of this underrated year. The bouquet is deep and truly beautiful, as it offers up a very pure and complex mélange of black cherries, a touch of plum, mustard seed, chocolate, lovely minerality, woodsmoke and a faint touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and rock solid at the core, with excellent focus and balance, ripe, perfectly integrated tannins and superb length and grip on the tangy and minerally finish. A stellar vintage of les Cras in the making, the 2006 is very, very close in quality to the much more highly regarded 2005, and will begin to drink several years earlier than the 2005."
