"The 2008 EX AEQUO, the product of Monte dâOiroâs partnership with Chapoutier, with the wines made at Monte dâOiro from its terroir, is 75% Touriga Nacional and 25% Syrah aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak. Very classy, this elegant yet powerful and persistent wine demonstrates lingering flavors as it airs out, becoming more gripping and intense and showing some notes of game. Graceful, ageworthy and complex, ultimately likely to be balanced and beautiful, it is the best Iâve seen yet in this bottling."

Best known for fortified Port from the Douro Valley, Portugal also produces distinctive dry reds from native grapes such as Touriga Nacional. Its dramatic terraced vineyards and blending traditions give the wines a singular identity.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
