"There are three barrels of this wine, two of which remain in their new oak from the Hospices de Nuits, and one that is an older barrel that Jean-Nicolas decided would help give a bit better balance to the finished wine. I am a little confused about this particular cuvĂ©e, as the barrels from the Hospices were marked as coming from the premier cru of les Didiers (which lies just over the PrĂ©meaux border and contiguous with Les St. Georges), but Robert Parker in his Burgundy book cites the âJacques Duretâ cuvĂ©e as hailing from Les St. Georges fruit. In any event, the wine shows excellent potential and is a classic young Nuits in its mĂ©lange of dark berries, cassis, bitter chocolate, charred wood, earth and espresso. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and classically structured, with a fine core of sweet black fruit, ripe tannins and sound acids on the long finish. Like any good young Nuits, this wine will need to be forgotten in a corner of the cellar for several years, but it shows outstanding potential."
