"A blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah and Mourvedre, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Lucille Avril receives the same upbringing as the regular cuvee, but is made from some of the estate’s oldest vines. Even better post-bottling, its saturated ruby/purple color offers up notes of cassis, jammy cherries, smoke, camphor, licorice, meat juices, and roasted herbs. Full-bodied, pure, broad, layered, and exceptionally long and silky, it can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or more. Bravo!"

Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
The southern Rhone's most famous appellation, blending Grenache with Syrah, Mourvedre and more into rich, warming, spice-laden reds from galet-strewn soils.
A warm-climate red giving generous, high-alcohol wines of red fruit and spice. It anchors southern Rhone blends and old-vine wines in Spain and Australia.
