"The 2003 Clos Erasmus is a candidate for wine of the vintage in Spain. Made from 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah, the wine is aged for 18 months in new French oak. Deep purple, the wine releases an ethereal nose of smoke, crushed stone, pencil lead, cassis, kirsch, black cherry and wild blueberry. On the palate the wine is liquid minerality, opulent, rich, yet focused and well-delineated. The finish lasts for over one minute."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
A rugged Catalan region whose steep llicorella slate slopes produce dense, mineral Garnacha and Carinena. Low yields and old vines give wines of great intensity and concentration.
One of only two wines with Spain's top DOQ status, yielding dense, mineral Garnacha and Carinena from steep slate slopes.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
A warm-climate red giving generous, high-alcohol wines of red fruit and spice. It anchors southern Rhone blends and old-vine wines in Spain and Australia.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
