"Lafond has followed its superb 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape with a ravishing 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Roc Epine that admirably demonstrates the tremendous purity and generosity of the fruit from the southern Rhone. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of kirsch liqueur, plums, brandy, raspberries, and licorice. This deep, pure, full-bodied Chateauneuf possesses gobs of fruit, impressive levels of glycerin, well-concealed alcohol, terrific balance, supple tannin, and low acidity."
