"The 2000 vintage may well be strongest in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the 2000 Roty Griotte would have no problem holding its own in a group of top flight 1999 grand crus. The nose is deep, nascently complex and still quite closed, eventually offering up a mélange of pure black cherries, plums, cocoa powder, a bit of licorice, incipient notes of bacon fat, fine soil tones, woodsmoke and a very understated bit of new oak. The almost strident toasty oak that has been the norm for a number of vintages chez Roty is nowhere to be found in this fine young wine. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and complex in a primary sort of way, with a rock solid core of fruit, ripe tannins, and a big, long, soil-driven finish. While the 2000 Roty Griotte is quite a young wine . . . it should begin drinking very well in five to seven years. An outstanding example of the vintage."
