"Saturated ruby-red. Bright, pure aromas of cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Juicy and sweet, with an almost liqueur-like flavor of cassis pastille. Wonderfully dense and thick but with great clarity and harmony and already showing captivating inner-mouth perfume. Compelling building finish features melting tannins buried in fruit. A standout of the vintage. This seems even more youthful than my memory of the basic 1997 bottling. A relative Brunello bargain, if you can find it in the retail marketplace."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
A powerful, age-worthy Sangiovese from the warm hills of Montalcino, requiring extended aging and prized for depth and longevity.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
