"The enterprising Serge Hochar presented his wines for the first time in England at the Bristol Wine Fair in July 1979 which is where I first met him . . . and tasted his wines: three very dry white and three red. Of the latter, the 1967 was outstanding and in the January 1980 issue of Decanter Magazine I wrote that it was one of the two top wines of the entire Fair. Dry but rich and fruity later that year and early 1980. A glowing note: luminous, fragrant in 1988, and equally delicious 12 years later: rosehip maturity, still some tannin."

The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
