"While I am not surprised that the 2001 Thorevilos turned out to be perfect, the 2001 Madrona Ranch was more of an eye-opener in that it has become even more extraordinary than I predicted eight years ago. A prodigious wine, with complex notes of subtle barbecue smoke intermixed with blueberry pie, black currant liqueur, acacia flowers, lead pencil shavings, and sweet foresty floor notes, this wine builds incrementally with layer upon layer of fruit, glycerin and concentration. The finish goes well past a minute, and the wine is full-bodied and deep, with wonderfully sweet tannin. It is still an adolescent in terms of its total evolution, but it is irresistible simply because of the flawless nature of the wine and incredible perfume and flavor intensity. Simply amazing! Both of these wines are adolescents, and probably won’t peak for another 5-8 years and keep for 30-40."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
California's most prestigious wine region, celebrated worldwide for opulent, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. Diverse soils and mountain-to-valley-floor sites yield wines of remarkable ripeness, power and longevity.
St. Helena is a warm valley-floor sub-AVA in Napa Valley, California, producing rich, ripe and generously fruited Cabernet Sauvignon of supple tannins, plush texture and classic Napa structure.
Abreu Vineyards ranks among Napa Valley’s most coveted producers, pairing David Abreu’s meticulous vineyard work with winemaker Brad Grimes’s talent for crafting Bordeaux-style reds of remarkable depth, polish, and longevity. Its four celebrated vineyard properties each bring a distinctive identity: Madrona Ranch, the founding estate on St. Helena’s western side, offers exceptional complexity from its varied soils and terrain; nearby Cappella, a six-acre site first planted in 1869, contributes a historic pedigree and beautifully expressive wines; Thorevilos, in the hills between the St. Helena and Howell Mountain appellations, produces powerful, intensely structured reds; and Las Posadas, perched roughly 2,000 feet above sea level on Howell Mountain, delivers concentrated mountain character. Together, these sites also underpin Rothwell Hyde, blending Madrona Ranch and Cappella, and Tilting Rock, combining Thorevilos and Las Posadas. Among Abreu’s standout vintages are 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018, with numerous wines earning perfect scores—including the 2013 Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos, and Las Posadas from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Combining extraordinary vineyard sites, exacting farming, and a consistent record of exceptional wines, Abreu remains a benchmark for collectors seeking Napa Valley at its finest.
