"(Vinified entirely with whole clusters; partly picked before the first rainy spell in October and partly before the second rain, according to Ehren Jordan, who added that unirrigated vineyards like this one rot last): Good deep ruby-red. Sexy, musky aromas of brown spices, violet, black pepper, sage and black olive. Densely packed and distinctly Old World in character, with a pungent perfume to the flavors of pepper, black olive, coffee and bitter chocolate. Dark fruits remain in the deep background today. Finishes with serious dusty tannins and excellent persistence. Idiosyncratic but very successful syrah . . ."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
