"Like many of the bigger appellations in 1990, the Roumier Chambolle village is still not completely ready to drink. While it shows only a bit of tannin, the bouquet and fruit tones on the palate have not fully assimilated their oak and alcohol, so the overall effect is of a wine that is a bit disjointed today. The nose offers up fine constituent components of black cherry, plum, woodsmoke, herb tones, chocolate, minerals and a touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is medium-full and quite well-endowed with the vintage’s thick fruit. The finish is long, lush and displaying plenty of terroir, but without everything yet in perfect harmony. However, I have no doubt that the pieces will fall into place over the next year or eighteen months, and the wine should absolutely shine from there on out."
