"I noticed that in its second vintage in the Barthod lineup, the Gruenchers has moved up to a more exalted position, as it is now served following the Beaux Bruns and the Baudes. These fifty-plus year-old vines only arrived in the Barthod stable right before harvest last year, so there was no possibility to oversee any of the viticulture here in 2009, but Ghislaine has been farming these for a full year now and the inherent potential of this parcel is very, very much in evidence with this great 2010 Gruenchers. The beautifully refined and sumptuous nose offers up scents of black cherries, blood orange, raw cocoa, a touch of nuttiness, wonderfully complex soil tones and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and velvety on the attack, with stunning transparency, a great core, fine-grained tannins and outstanding length and grip on the tangy and still quite primary finish. This is going to be a great, great wine."
