"The 2009 Chablis Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes is a striking wine. The gravitas of the old vines comes through loud and clear in the wine’s textural richness and weight. Layers of fruit build beautifully towards the expansive, creamy finish. Both versions of the Fourchaume are quite beautiful, although I have a slight preference for the regular bottling. These vines were planted in 1945 . . . . This tiny domaine is located just outside Chablis proper. Guillaume Vrignaud and his family own 20 hectares of vineyards, which they have recently begun converting to biodynamic farming. Most of the wines are vinified and aged in steel, although some of the higher-end wines see oak, as described above."

Produces steely, mineral Chardonnay from Kimmeridgian limestone in Burgundy's cool north, prized for precision, purity and saline drive.
2009 in Burgundy was warm and sunny, producing ripe, rich and generous reds of hedonistic charm and supple tannins; the whites are opulent but can lack acidity, making them best enjoyed relatively young.
The world's most versatile white grape, producing everything from steely Chablis to rich, oaked whites. Its neutrality makes it a mirror of terroir and winemaking, and the foundation of white Burgundy and Champagne.
