"The 2008 Cortona Syrah Il Bosco comes across as quite focused and primary in this vintage, with layers of black fruit lurking beneath a wall of imposing tannin. The 2008 is a cool, inward Il Bosco that needs a few years in bottle before it begins to show the full breadth of its potential. For now, the wine's sheer depth and textural richness makes me think the future is bright."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
