"Bernard opened a 2001 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre because it was a botrytized year like the 2013. It has a strong petrol character on the nose and I agree with Isabelle Raveneau that there is an Alsace Riesling-inspired personality here. The palate is well-balanced and fresh with wonderful acidity, slightly viscous with a Saar-like intensity on the finish and a hint of wild mushroom on the aftertaste. God invented Chardonnay for wines like this. It is drinking perfectly . . ."
