"Lurid ruby. Fresh black currant, cherry pit and a hint of garrigue on the perfumed, pepper-tinged nose. Juicy, focused and energetic on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors lifted and sharpened by peppery spices. Tightly focused on the youthfully tannic and persistent finish, which echoes the herb and licorice notes."

A warm-climate red giving generous, high-alcohol wines of red fruit and spice. It anchors southern Rhone blends and old-vine wines in Spain and Australia.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
