"The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeots Les Fairendes is a little straight-laced following on from the Chenevottes and perhaps does not quite deliver the same tension and mineralitĂŠ. The palate is well balanced with good weight in the mouth, leaning slightly towards the nuttiness of a Meursault, and displaying convincing vigour if not life-affirming complexity on the "correct" finish. This is a more difficult to Chassagne to understand at the moment and deserves 3-4 years in bottle."

Chassagne-Montrachet is a village AOC in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune with numerous Premier Crus, renowned above all for rich, nutty, mineral Chardonnay whites, though it also makes firm Pinot Noir reds.
2014 in Burgundy is a benchmark white vintage, tense, fresh and mineral, though Cote de Beaune hail cut yields; the reds are balanced and classically proportioned, with good freshness and medium-term aging potential.
The world's most versatile white grape, producing everything from steely Chablis to rich, oaked whites. Its neutrality makes it a mirror of terroir and winemaking, and the foundation of white Burgundy and Champagne.
