"The 2010 Solengo shows the pedigree of this great vintage. Violets, tar, smoke, licorice and plums burst from the glass. Vibrantly nuanced and beautifully articulated, the 2010 impresses for its striking balance and refined, sophisticated personality. This is one of the very best Solengos I can remember tasting. The style is rich and highly expressive, but with no excess weight. In 2010, Solengo is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 10% Syrah. Argiano was recently sold to a group of Brazilian investors. I am curious to see how things develop, as this is one of the most highly regarded properties in Montalcino in terms of its potential."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
A deeply colored, tannic Bordeaux blending grape adding color, structure and floral, spicy complexity in small proportions.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
