"The 2007 Corullon Las Lamas was also aged in 100% new French oak. It proffers a compelling bouquet of sandalwood, mineral, Asian spices, incense, lavender, black cherry, and black raspberry. Satin-textured, multifaceted, and intense, it is full of finesse, elegance, and impeccable balance. It can be approached now but will continue to evolve for several more years. Descendientes de Jose Palacios was founded in 1998 by Alvaro Palacios. It has steep hillside vineyards ranging in age from 60-100 years planted to 100% Mencia, the indigenous grape of cool-climate Bierzo. The vineyards are biodynamically farmed and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
