"The 2000 Mayacamas cabernet sauvignon is a legend in the making, and it will clearly give even the very top, traditional claret bottlings from this vintage a run for their money over the next forty or fifty years. This is a classic, rock solid and impeccably balanced vintage of Mayacamas that offers up a superb, sappy aromatic mélange of black cherries, dark chocolate, woodsmoke, earth, incipient notes of chipotle and a nice touch of tobacco in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and broad-shouldered, with a terrific core of sappy fruit, brisk acidity, ripe, substantial tannins and stunning length and grip on the palate-staining finish. This should be a very worthy follow-up to the heroically proportioned wines of the seventies and eighties from Mayacamas."
