"Tasted at the Domaine Engel tasting in London, the 1990 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru, which was tasted from magnum, is just a magnificent, regal, imperious wine. It unfolds with stunning red cherries, crushed strawberry, animal fur, black truffle and leather. When I returned after 30 minutes, there was a hint of brettanomyces, but in a positive sense, merely adding to its complexity. The palate is beautifully balanced with great body and outstanding balance, the richness of the growing season coming through with its rondeur. Yet, this wine is endowed with stunning precision and poise, concluding with a generous, flowing finish of brambly red fruit and mineral that is beguilingly harmonious. It is everything you seek from mature Burgundy at its peak. Tasted October 2016."
