"The 2015 Cornas Vin Noir, from 100-year-old vines, is a tour de force. Crushed stone and violets set the stage for this full-bodied wine thatâs loaded with cassis and plum fruit but hemmed in tightly by firm tannins. Give it at least 7 years of rest in a cool cellar. At the caveau price of 40 euros, itâs a bargain. Vigneron StĂ©phane Robert maintains a small little caveau in the town of Saint-PĂ©ray, but the real action takes place up at his winery in the hills overlooking the town. His holdings include bits of Saint-PĂ©ray, Saint-Joseph and Cornas, where he has three parcels of vines that are over 100 years old. Interestingly, he says, â2016 is less structured but just as concentrated as 2015.â"

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
