"The only red presented, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah aged half in concrete and half in barrique) possesses a dark ruby color to go with smoky, toasty aromas and flavors of blackberry, licorice and wood spice to go with a medium-bodied, fresh and focused feel on the palate. Classic 2004 with its mid-weight aromas and flavors, yet excellent length and building richness, it should drink nicely . . ."

The southern Rhone's most famous appellation, blending Grenache with Syrah, Mourvedre and more into rich, warming, spice-laden reds from galet-strewn soils.
A late-ripening red lending structure, dark fruit and gamey, meaty complexity to southern Rhone and Mediterranean blends.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
