"To the best of my recollection, I have never had a bottle of 1968 Piemonte wine prior to this bottle of Santa Stefano from Bruno Giacosa, but if this superb wine is any indication of the quality of the vintage, then I will be on the lookout for other examples. This is a beautiful and fully mature example of this great vineyard, offering up a complex and classic aromatic constellation of cherries, fresh oregano, gamebird, a great base of soil, a touch of road tar, a gentle base of autumnal tones and a dollop of red curry in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still sweet at the core, with superb focus and grip, melting tannins and a very long, balanced, tangy and complex finish. Simply a stunning example of mature Santa Stefano and with absolutely nothing “off vintage” about it!"

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
Produces Nebbiolo of slightly more elegance and approachability than neighboring Barolo, offering perfume, finesse and firm structure.
Produces pale but powerfully tannic and perfumed reds with tar, rose and cherry notes. The grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco, it is among the most age-worthy in the world.
