"Brilliant purple. A seductively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, blueberry, incense and olive and carries a smoky mineral overtone. Seamless and sweet in the mouth, offering energetic black and blue fruit and candied licorice flavors and an exotic five-spice powder quality. Gains richness and sweetness with air and finishes very long, with lingering floral character and smooth, building tannins. Shows serious power, but I find it very nicely balanced and graceful. Only massalle selections are used for red grape re-planting here, which means that strictly Serine is now present in the estate’s vineyards. Lionel Faury told me that he is entirely uninterested in Syrah clones, which he thinks ‘trade off far too much in complexity for the higher yields and easier work that the clones offer.’ The Faurys now have 11 hectares under vine and Lionel describes his winemaking as ‘flexible, because it doesn't make sense to not be ready adapt, especially with how crazy the weather has been [in recent years].’ New oak is used, but just ‘to renew the barrels, not enough to mask the wines,’ as Faury put it."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
