"This could almost be a Chianti Classico, now that it is allowed to be made with 100% Sangiovese, but Martino Manetti wants to keep it a simple IGT, in respect of the wishes of his father Sergio, who was sometimes polemic in demanding it be so. This 2008 is a noble example of elegance and what Sangiovese can be, if cultivated and made properly. A luminous ruby color, with an aroma of black cherry, tobacco, balsamic notes and slight spicy scents. Taut, agile, aristocratic with a long and subtle finish. In other words, a great wine."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
