"I was most impressed with the balance of earth and fruit. At over 20 years of age, this is wonderful today and for fans of wine that is not too old, but not brand new, either. Refined tannins impress, as do the flavours of truffle, creosote, red and black fruit, and tobacco. A wine of elegance but also superb mid-palate concentration. The long finish has freshness, pencil lead and spicy Christmas cake aspects. Terrific wine."

The world's largest fine-wine region, built around blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Divided by the Gironde estuary into the structured Left Bank and the plush, Merlot-led Right Bank, it is the historic benchmark for age-worthy claret and sweet Sauternes.
