93+ JG "The Bearwallow bottling is made from purchased grapes and shows the slightly warmer aspect of Anderson Valley in comparison to the Santa Cruz Mountains, as the 2008 pinot weighs in at what is a pretty hefty octane for Rhys- 13.6 percent alcohol. However, there is absolutely no issues with either overripeness or heat on the palate and this is one absolutely stellar bottle of pinot noir in the making, as the wine soars from the glass in a blaze of black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, Mendocino herb tones, espresso, vinesmoke and a deft touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with bright acids, a fine core of fruit, ripe, well-integrated tannins and superb length and grip on the focused and transparent finish. Despite the very seamless nature of the tannins here, I would certainly give this wine at least four or five years in the cellar before really having at it in earnest. Great juice." 92 VM "Deep, bright red. Deep aromas of black raspberry, candied licorice and flowers, with a mineral topnote. Suave on entry, then firm and bright in the middle, with a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red and dark berries and floral pastilles. Finishes with good breadth and length and fine-grained tannins."
