"Gaja's 1996 Darmagi is terrific. In fact, the 1996 is one of the best vintages of Darmagi I can remember tasting. Varietally expressive, with tons of Cabernet Sauvignon character, the 1996 makes a very strong case for itself, something that isn't always true. A host of mocha, plum, lavender and spice notes flesh out in this super-expressive, intense Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1996 is simply striking in every way."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
