"The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino is an awesome effort. It presents heady sensations of spice, black pepper, smoke and scorched earth along with masses of densely concentrated fruit that open onto the palate with extraordinary length. Though highly atypical for Brunello it is a highly nuanced, compelling wine that should drink well for another decade. In 1997 most of the fruit for the Brunello came from rented vines that had been poorly tended to by the owner and thus gave abnormally low yields."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
A powerful, age-worthy Sangiovese from the warm hills of Montalcino, requiring extended aging and prized for depth and longevity.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
