95 AG "The 2016 Chardonnay is fabulous. A vivid, textured wine, the 2016 possesses remarkable finesse and intensity in all of its dimensions. Lemon oil and white flowers are amped up by the natural intensity of these old vines. The 2016 was fermented and aged in neutral oak, with no malolactic fermentation. Mayacamas is setting a new standard for what California Chardonnay can be. Don't miss it. I stopped by Mayacamas in September, 2017 and tasted a number of wines with Estate Manager Jimmy Hayes and Winemaker Andy Erickson. A few weeks later, the property was engulfed by fire that destroyed portions of the property, including the room where I have always tasted. In addition to these bottles and barrel samples, I also sampled several 2017s that held much promise. The future of those wines and some of the wines in the cellar is now uncertain. That is a real shame, as Mayacamas has been on a roll over the last few years. On a more positive note, these bottled wines are all exceptional." 95 WE "Winemakers Braiden Albrecht and Andy Erickson crafted magic out of a difficult vintage, picking the grapes for this beautiful white well before the October 2017 fires. It's gorgeously racy and light, bright and effusive, offering fleshy flavors of peach and lemon. Licorice and fennel finish out the expressive wine, which persists in wet stone."
