"Dark red. Refined aromas of dark red cherry, blackcurrant, lavender, sage, rosemary and tobacco on the multidimensional nose. Textured, pure and classy, with very long, mineral-driven dark red berry and cherry flavors framed by noble, smooth tannins and complicated by a tarry element. This very striking new bottling from Frescobaldi is made from 90% old-vine sangiovese and 10% similarly old colorino, malvasia nera and canaiolo nero. I find it much more elegant and polished than the regular Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rufina, as well as less fleshy and ripe than the Montesodi. There is an element of purity here that is absolutely irresistible. This will improve further with age: Frescobaldi has a real winner."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
