"The 2013 Ampodium bottling from RenĂŠ Rostaing, which readers will recall is his blended cuvĂŠe, is an absolutely classic bottle of young CĂ´te-RĂ´tie. The bouquet is bright, precise and very transparent, offering up a marvelous blend of raspberries, pepper, spiced meats, stony soil tones, woodsmoke, a nice touch of stems and a topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and gorgeously soil-driven, but coupled to a very sappy core of red fruit, impeccable focus and balance, ripe, moderate tannins and great length and grip on the nascently complex and utterly seamless balance. This is utterly superb and will not need too many years in the cellar to start to drink with generosity."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
The northern Rhone's most prestigious red appellation, producing perfumed, elegant Syrah, often co-fermented with a little Viognier, from steep terraced slopes.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
