"The 2011 Pàtrimo is a beautiful wine for sure . . . . The wine is generous and powerful. It offers 14.5% alcohol that is the highest reading for this wine throughout its history. The complexity is there, but it is not as clear or delineated. Dark fruit, savory spice, tar and smoked meat rise from the bouquet. This year saw lots of rain in winter months, followed by a very hot summer, and more rain at the beginning of September. The pre-harvest period was distinguished by sharp diurnal shifts and this is evident in the balsam and herbal notes that are also on display. The wine offers soft, but velvety tannins and some toasted notes on the finish."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
