"Dense and meaty, the 2010 Casual Encounters is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre that was aged in 45% new French oak. Coming from White Hawk, Luna Matta, Larner, Alta Mesa and Shadow Canyon Vineyards, it has a savory, black fruit-driven profile that gives way to notions of smoked herbs, damp earth, bouquet garni, chocolate and mineral nuances with air. Opening up over the evening, it is a full-bodied effort that has a light, deft texture, notable freshness and chewy tannin on the back-end. Drinking beautifully, it should continue to shine . . . . Russell From continues to release a bevy of smoking wines under his Herman Story label. His wines never lack for fruit or texture, yet to me, always stay beautifully balanced and downright thrilling to drink. In addition, these 2010s and 2011s are some of the more restrained efforts he’s released. Keep an open mind and check these wine out."

A warm-climate red giving generous, high-alcohol wines of red fruit and spice. It anchors southern Rhone blends and old-vine wines in Spain and Australia.
A late-ripening red lending structure, dark fruit and gamey, meaty complexity to southern Rhone and Mediterranean blends.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
