"The 2017 Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese is still pretty reductive but clear and elegant on the crunchy slate and floral nose. Lush and salty on the pure, refined and elegant palate, this is a concentrated, densely woven and sensual Badstube with the mineral grip and tension of this often underrated Grosse Lage .... Sophia Thanisch lost about 50% of a normal harvest in 2017 due to spring frost and hail in early August. In March this year, she presented me with another very good series of Rieslings, of which the Kabinett and the regular Spätlese from the Doctor are fabulous, as is the Auslese from the Bernkasteler Badstube. For reasons not explained in more detail but that might have to do with very rare quantities, I didn't taste the Doctor GG and the gold-capsuled Spätlese, whereas the Beerenauslese was still not ready to taste."
