"The 2001 Carmignano is exemplary in its deep, inky ruby tonality, its sweet, spicy, penetrating nose of berries, cloves, and cedar, and its dense, textured, layered palate which features much fruit along with oak spices and significant concentration and weight on the finish .... This house has certainly come a long way – when I first encountered the wines in the 1980’s, the owners vociferously defended the use of chestnut casks in the cellars. A new generation has now taken over, and oak is now the wood of choice for aging the wines."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
