"Wow: simply a stunning CĂ´te-RĂ´tie. A sensuous, understated nose of damson, forest floor, cèpe mushrooms, and a touch of white fennel just builds and builds with aeration. The palate is full-bodied, perfectly balanced with astounding definition and poise. Again, there is a touch of fennel towards the earthy, slightly roasted, tarry finish but the length is extraordinary. Great breeding and sophistication, certainly the best wine I have ever encountered from Monsieur Rostaing. RenĂŠ Rostaingâs CĂ´te RĂ´tie CĂ´te Blonde is the smallest production of RenĂŠ's three cuvees (Ampodium, Landonne and CĂ´te Blonde) and comes from his roughly 1 hectare (roughly 2.5 acres) of holdings in the CĂ´te Blonde lieu-dit. This vines here were planted both in 1934, and some later in 1970-1971. Itâs the only cuvee to incorporate Viognier, and this variety makes up roughly 3-5% of the blend. While RenĂŠ destemmed more in the past, today, he keeps destemming to a minimum and aging occurs in mostly older demi-muid, with 15-20% being new. Thereâs a scant 500 cases in most vintages, and itâs certainly one of the Icon wines from the northern RhĂ´ne."
