"I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Gallica. Winemaker Rosemary Cakebread sources her Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville and St. Helena, Cabernet Franc from Oakville and Petit Verdot from Coombsville. Most of the fruit is fermented in small stainless steel tanks, although 15-20% is done in French oak. These handmade, artisan wines are well worth the effort of seeking out. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big, plush wine. Despite its initial richness, there is plenty of underlying tannin. Sweet floral notes are woven throughout. The 2009 bursts with energy, precision and sheer class. It is a dazzling effort. Far from an easygoing 2009, the wine shows the more structure side of the vintage."
