"I preferred the 2011 Irpinia Campi Taurasini Eremo San Quirico to the vintage immediately before it (despite the fact that 2010 was a better year for Campania wines generally speaking). This expression . . . is slightly more tame compared to the 2010. You get a better sense of the fruit here with bold notes of rich cherry, blackberry and plum. The finish is extra smooth and long and the tannins are velvety in consistency."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
