"The 2015 Pinot Noir Estate East Ridge is a dark, powerful wine – similar to the Raschen Ridge – but with a greater backbone of structure. Black cherry fruit, leather and spice are some of the many nuances that build as this powerful, dense wine shows off its bold personality. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 to allow some of the tannin to melt away. This is an impressive showing. 2015 will go down as one of the most unusual vintages at Hirsch. Harvest began on August 15, the earliest start ever. Yields came in at a punishing 0.89 tons per acre. 2015 is also a vintage of transition, as these are the last wines made by Ross Cobb. Sadly, there is no Bohan-Dillon Pinot, and the production of the Chardonnay (which I did not taste) is minimal. It will be interesting to see what new winemaker Anthony Filiberti and proprietor Jasmine Hirsch come up with in 2016 and beyond, as the Hirsch family's Sonoma Coast estate is undoubtedly one of the great vineyard sites in the United States."
