"For many years the Champs Chenys has been my favorite of the various Gevrey villages wines made by the domaine, but there are now two distinct bottlings of Champs Chenys, with the new one appearing under the label of Philippe Roty. This note is for the traditional Champs Chenys, and it is excellent in 2005, as it jumps from the glass in a classy mélange of plums, black cherries, grilled meats, dark chocolate, fresh herbs, minerals and a touch of toasty oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and racy, with moderate tannins, tangy acidity, and a long, refined finish that closes with a note of raw cocoa. A very classy bottle as always."
