"The red 2011 Casal de Arman is a blend of Brancellao, Souson and Caino Longo aged for nine months in stainless steel vats. Flint, gunpowder, licorice, cloves, peppery notes, sour cherries, a touch creamy, round, velvety, with good acidity and a final herbaceous note. A fine Atlantic red, with a profile that might make you think of Chinon. This family business, created in 1999 in the Avia valley, is quickly turning into one of the main players in the Ribeiro appellation. The Gonzalez-Vazquez family own around 20 hectares of vineyards, averaging 25 years old, but with a small core of very old plants, some of them up to 70 years of age. The four brothers and two sisters are all involved in the business, which includes a restaurant."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
