"A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, this Ornellaia has been one of my favourite Super-Tuscans ever since I first tasted in blind almost a decade ago. A very deep colour. The nose remains stubbornly backward considering its age, but left in the glass to breath, it develops some gorgeous ripe plum, cassis and glycerin notes. The palate is medium-bodied with that lush, silky, sensuous texture; essentially a Bordeaux with Mediterranean exoticism. It has an irresistible sense of purity with rounded lush black fruits, black olive and even a touch of honey on the long finish. An outstanding wine."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
